Case studies response

My Response to Edward Weston’s work:

My response to Alicja Brodowicz’s work :

Evaluation:

I believe that the image’s that I have produced in response to my 2 Case Studies, Edwards Weston and Alicja Brodowicz, are very accurate to their work. For an example, Edwards work is in black and white which consists the humanization of things like fruits and vegetables. He manipulated his photographs in a way that he gave the things he was photographing, human like features. In this aspect, I think that I powerfully portrayed this in my images. For an example, I photographed trees that have human like feature and manipulated human hands to look like a world. The use of black and white in my images also shows an inspiration. Things I could’ve improved in my response is using fruits and vegetables like Weston does. This would allow me to portray the full inspiration I had through his work.

Now when it comes to my response to Alicja Brodowicz work, I can strongly say that there is clear inspiration. The use of comparison of two images, shows that inspiration I got from Brodowicz. The use of black and white also shows this. Alicja Brodowicz creates images where she compares nature to humans and shows how similar the human species are to nature. Her whole project show a diverse set of human features and compares it to the beauty of nature. It shows that we are imperfectly perfect, like nature. However, I could improve my response by showing a more diverse set of human features to ensure inclusivity and variation just like Brodowicz work.

  1. Vitoria, I like how these new images and juxtapositions are developing, but I like to see more. Don’t be to economical in showing experimentation and variation of your images. The quality is there, but a bit more volume would add value too.

  2. Bearn in mind also that you must produce two in-depth artists case studies on Edward Weston and his nudes/ nature still-lives and Alicija Brodowicz.

Follow these steps to produce top marks:

Research and analyse the work of at least 2 (or more) photographers/ artists. Explore, discuss, describe and explain key examples of their work relevant to your project and intentions. Follow these steps:

    1. Produce a mood board with a selection of images and write an overview of their work, its visual style, meaning and methods. Describe why you have selected to study their work and how it relates to the exam themes of UNION

    2. Select at least one key image and analyse in depth using methodology of TECHNICAL>VISUAL>CONTEXTUAL>CONCEPTUAL

    3. Incorporate quotes and comments from artist themselves or others (art/ media /film critics, art/ media/ film historians, curators, writers, journalists etc) using a variety of sources such as Youtube, online articles, reviews, text, books etc. Make sure you reference sources and embed links in your blog post.

    4. Compare and contrast your chosen artists in terms of similarities and differences in their approaches, techniques and outcomes of their work.

    5. Plan photographic response and record new images in relation to artist case- study. Don’t copy what they are doing how you could respond creatively to the image-making process, technically, visually, conceptually.
